Upgrades Delayed

Wed Apr 19, 2006, 4:30 AM
. . . in case you wondered where the new 3000 x 2250 images were.

The original renders were not high enough quality, so I had to re-do them. Each one takes 6-12 hours, so that took a while!

Now I have them, but not enough bandwidth to upload easily: In case you don't know from my main account, I have moved jobs recently.

I'm considering what to do next. Worst case is that new images will trickle on at 1 every week or so.

The next 100 stocks are on the way. I am rendering them at a very high (hopefully professionally high) quality. I already have 30 or so rendered, just need to package them up in the next week . . .

They will all be 3000 x 2250 pixels, .png format with transparency. Typical file size will be 10-15Mb.

I would be interested to know if anyone finds that either too large or too small to work with.

...and special welcome to anyone who's popped over from the Dundjinni User Forums!

All images here are provided under a Creative Commons License - Attribution, Commercial Use Allowed.

Perhaps that sounds complex? It's not. Here is some advice on usage (this is also in the readme.txt on every download, so no excuses, people!):

1. The image is NOT Public Domain. It remains (c) Neil Slater, and you are using it under a limited license.

2. The license is very fair, and cheap. It allows you to use the image for a wide range of purposes, without paying any money to me or anyone else.

3. The basic rules are:

i) You can use the image for any creative purpose, including outside DA and commercial work.

ii) If you use the image to make any derived work, you must credit me for my contribution, on any distribution. That includes on a prints page, or inside a book cover etc.

iii) You may not redistribute this image unchanged under a different license, or claim copyright for yourself.

4. Acceptable credits are:

i) On a deviation page on DA only, I will accept any "standard DA practice". E.g. a link to the original image, my avatar, a namecheck. The important thing is that someone viewing your art can find my main account or stock account.

ii) On any other web page, a link to my main gallery and my name "Neil Slater".

iii) On a print or poster, credit me in the description at any location where it is being sold (i.e. on the prints page on DA, in the print description). You do not need to credit me on the actual print, but can if you wish.

iv) On any other printed material, my name, "Neil Slater", credited in the usual place. It must be as clearly visible as any other appropriate credits, perhaps secondary to your name as principle artist or designer. For instance if you are credited for an image used as a CD cover, I expect to be listed as contributing too.

v) In general, refer to standard and best practice for credits in the medium you are distributing your work.

vi) I expect to be credited in a meaningful way - attempts to "get round" assigning a credit, such as very small text, or placing the credit in an unsuitable location, will not be treated as valid.

5. I cannot change the terms of the license, so you don't need to worry about me changing things after you have made your image. However, I can revoke this license if you don't follow the rules. I will be strictly enforcing them.

6. If you want to use the image under a different license, then contact me, I am happy to discuss options.

Hi Everyone!

I'm actully *slobo777

This is going to be my "fractal stock" account. Whilst looking for fractals I can use in my own work, I inevitably come across many that look useful, but I don't need. I intend to render them, upload them here, and you will all be able to use them in your photomanips and designs.

The images won't be Public Domain, instead I intend to license them under a Creative Commons license. What that means in practice is you do what you usually do on DA - credit and link back. But if you intend them for use as prints, and outside DA, you will need to take more care to ensure I am credited properly.

Basically I will be providing the images as a service, and my "payment" will be a namecheck at the point of distribution. Use your composite picture on a greetings card? I expect to see "Design by The Mighty Artist, background image by Neil Slater" or similar, on the back. You get the drift . . .

More later :-)
